The handling of my motorhome, a Bürstner Aviano i727 with ALKO chassis and very long overhang, was getting worse and worse, sometimes even borderline dangerous.
Through intensive web searches, various blogs, etc., I became aware of Marquart shock absorbers.

“Why on earth didn’t I do this sooner?! Or: How I got a completely new motorhome in just four hours!
Sometimes there are moments when you ask yourself: Why didn’t I do that sooner? That’s exactly how I felt about my motorhome. We had just spent six weeks in Corsica – six weeks during which my chassis felt more like a bouncy castle than a stable road vehicle. Winding mountain passes? An adventure. Ruts? Pure horror. So it was clear: something had to be done!
Numerous enthusiastic reports online led me to Marquart Stoßdämpfer, a specialist company in the tranquil town of Löningen. The people there were being celebrated – so there had to be something to it. I got in touch and Andreas W., chassis planner and consultant, was right on the ball. Once he had all the data for ‘Charly’s car’ – weights, axle loads and everything else that’s important – he put together a detailed quote for me in record time. Precise, tailor-made and simply good. I didn’t have to think twice.
A little later, I found myself standing in the courtyard of Mercedes-Benz Raters in Löningen, where I was greeted by Norbert S. And what a character! A real mechanic with heart and soul. A senior journeyman, commercial vehicle specialist and someone who doesn’t just do his job – he lives it. With around twenty years of Ducato experience under my belt, I know my way around these machines, but Norbert? He was in a league of his own. Friendly, precise, thorough – simply a professional through and through.
And then we were off. A good four hours later, my motorhome was standing in front of me – but somehow it wasn’t. Because the thing waiting for me suddenly felt like a completely different vehicle! To top it all off, there was an extensive test drive with a Marquart technician – and I was speechless.
No more bottoming out – whether on potholes or bumpy roads. Cornering? Suddenly relaxed! No more swaying, no more queasy feeling. Swaying? A thing of the past! Everything stays calm, even in ruts and crosswinds. Driving experience? More like a large SUV than a heavy van!
I really didn’t think that a new chassis could make such a difference. I drove the 200 kilometres back to the Ruhr region with a big smile on my face. Why didn’t I do this five years ago? I have no idea. But one thing I do know: it was the best decision I’ve made in a long time!

“Right from the start, I was annoyed by the dreadful ride comfort of our 2021 Dethleffs XLI, especially the loud rolling noises. Every bump in the road, especially transverse joints, hit the interior so hard that you had the feeling that half the vehicle had collapsed at the back.
After a lot of research and on the recommendation of two friends who have the same vehicle, I decided to install additional air suspension on the tandem rear axle. The result was slightly better at first, but after experimenting with the air pressure, I didn’t notice any significant improvement. Although the vehicle’s suspension was slightly better, the long rear overhang meant that it literally bounced on the rear axle as if you were sitting on a rubber ball. Despite all this, nothing changed, especially on bends. The bumps continued to be so pronounced that you were seriously worried.
So I did some more research and discovered that the tyre pressure recommended by the manufacturer was far too high for my vehicle. After adjusting the pressure to the correct values, I noticed a small, but really only a small improvement. However, the problem with the transverse joints or a patched-up road, as is normal in our areas, remained.
So I did some more research, because that couldn’t be the end result for me. In the course of this, I came across the Marquart company and initially described my problem to them. I found the subsequent consultation to be excellent and extremely detailed.
I finally decided to replace the rear shock absorbers with Marquart shock absorbers. The installation was very easy and I did it myself on a Saturday afternoon.
I then drove extensively over my usual test track and what can I say: the shock absorbers finally do what they are supposed to! The vehicle is kept quiet and the bumps are absorbed cleanly. What’s more, the lateral inclination on roundabouts or in bends has decreased significantly, which also contributes to a much better driving experience.
For me personally, the result is impressive and I am really thrilled. Looking back, I think that I could have saved myself the additional air suspension if I had opted for the Marquart dampers in the first place.
A big compliment to the Marquart company, which not only has a high level of expertise, but also offers a first-class and exceptional service in this day and age and also provides the customer with friendly, respectful advice without giving the customer the feeling that they are being a nuisance. I can recommend the Marquart company without reservation and will certainly call on their expertise again if required. And for anyone who still has doubts, I am happy to provide information.
