“Why on earth didn’t I do this sooner?! Or: How I got a completely new motorhome in just four hours!
Sometimes there are moments when you ask yourself: Why didn’t I do that sooner? That’s exactly how I felt about my motorhome. We had just spent six weeks in Corsica – six weeks during which my chassis felt more like a bouncy castle than a stable road vehicle. Winding mountain passes? An adventure. Ruts? Pure horror. So it was clear: something had to be done!
Numerous enthusiastic reports online led me to Marquart Stoßdämpfer, a specialist company in the tranquil town of Löningen. The people there were being celebrated – so there had to be something to it. I got in touch and Andreas W., chassis planner and consultant, was right on the ball. Once he had all the data for ‘Charly’s car’ – weights, axle loads and everything else that’s important – he put together a detailed quote for me in record time. Precise, tailor-made and simply good. I didn’t have to think twice.
A little later, I found myself standing in the courtyard of Mercedes-Benz Raters in Löningen, where I was greeted by Norbert S. And what a character! A real mechanic with heart and soul. A senior journeyman, commercial vehicle specialist and someone who doesn’t just do his job – he lives it. With around twenty years of Ducato experience under my belt, I know my way around these machines, but Norbert? He was in a league of his own. Friendly, precise, thorough – simply a professional through and through.
And then we were off. A good four hours later, my motorhome was standing in front of me – but somehow it wasn’t. Because the thing waiting for me suddenly felt like a completely different vehicle! To top it all off, there was an extensive test drive with a Marquart technician – and I was speechless.
No more bottoming out – whether on potholes or bumpy roads.
Cornering? Suddenly relaxed! No more swaying, no more queasy feeling.
Swaying? A thing of the past! Everything stays calm, even in ruts and crosswinds.
Driving experience? More like a large SUV than a heavy van!
I really didn’t think that a new chassis could make such a difference. I drove the 200 kilometres back to the Ruhr region with a big smile on my face. Why didn’t I do this five years ago? I have no idea. But one thing I do know: it was the best decision I’ve made in a long time!
